🏢About the role
Balfour Beatty is seeking an experienced Senior Energy Manager to lead its commercial portfolio energy strategy across Central London. This is a high-impact senior role at the intersection of sustainability, building services and commercial property — reporting directly to the Head of Sustainability.
You will own the energy management programme across 18 commercial buildings totalling 2.4 million sq ft, driving towards net zero operational carbon by 2030. The role includes a £2.1M annual capital improvement budget and significant scope to shape long-term strategy.
✅What you'll be doing
- Lead development and delivery of energy reduction strategies across the commercial portfolio
- Manage energy data, BEMS reporting and half-hourly data analysis using energy management platforms
- Identify and implement energy efficiency measures — HVAC optimisation, lighting upgrades, BMS improvements
- Prepare ESOS reports, EPC assessments and MEES compliance plans for the portfolio
- Manage energy supplier relationships, utility consultants and engineering contractors
- Lead the internal net zero working group and present quarterly carbon reports to the board
- Manage the £2.1M annual capital energy improvement programme with full budget accountability
- Mentor junior energy officers within the wider sustainability team
🎯What we're looking for
- Minimum 5 years in energy management within commercial buildings
- Strong working knowledge of UK energy legislation — ESOS, SECR, MEES, Part L Building Regulations
- Experience with BMS platforms — Siemens Desigo, Trend IQ or Johnson Controls Metasys
- Proven track record of delivering measurable, quantified energy reductions
- Advanced data analysis — Excel, Power BI or equivalent reporting tools
- Strong stakeholder management — able to present at board level and influence senior leadership
- Degree in building services engineering, mechanical or electrical engineering (or equivalent)
